Several high-speed rail trips linking Hong Kong SAR with Chinese mainland cities were canceled or suspended Monday, with Guangzhou routes hit the hardest.

HONG KONG — Travelers across Guangdong faced significant disruptions on Monday after severe weather conditions forced the cancellation of multiple high-speed rail services connecting the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with Chinese mainland cities.
The MTR Corporation, operator of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section), said a series of train trips would be canceled due to adverse weather affecting the region.
The Guangzhou route was hit hardest. From Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guangzhou South Station, eight trips were canceled: G6582, G6518, G6528, G6584, G6520, G6530, and G6538. From Guangzhou South Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, eight services — G6517, G6527, G6581, G6519, G6529, G6583, G6533, and G6521 — were suspended.
On the Hong Kong–Shantou section, three services were canceled from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shantou Station: G6574, G6392, and G6578. In the reverse direction, from Shantou Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, services G6573, G6389, and G6577 were also suspended.
In addition, the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Zhaoqing East Station service, G6580, was canceled.
Earlier, China Railway Guangzhou Group said that due to rainfall impacts, several train services on the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway, and Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway would be disrupted on June 14 and 15.
The cancellations came as the Central Meteorological Observatory continued issuing a yellow rainstorm warning and a blue severe convective weather warning on Monday. According to forecasts, parts of central and northern Guangdong, eastern coastal areas of Guangdong, eastern Guangxi, southwestern Fujian, and eastern Yunnan are expected to experience heavy rainstorms, with some areas in eastern Guangdong’s coastal regions facing extremely heavy rain. The conditions are also expected to bring short-term heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Alternatives and refunds
For passengers affected by the cancelations, the MTR said travelers should check the latest train schedules on the 12306 official website (12306.cn) or via the mobile app. Passengers can also check for updated information on Hong Kong’s High Speed Rail website (https://www.highspeed.mtr.com.hk) or at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.
As an alternative transport option, passengers may consider taking East Rail Line trains to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau, or using other cross-border transport services.
For ticket refunds, the MTR urged passengers to refer to the High Speed Rail website and process refunds within the stated time period. To avoid queues, passengers are advised to use the 12306 official website or mobile app for refunds rather than rushing to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.
Refunds for canceled train trips can be processed without service fees.
