HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM) has launched a new exhibition dedicated to the celebrated performer Leung Sing Por, famously known as "The King of Comic Roles."
The exhibition is currently on display at the museum's Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall, offering a comprehensive look at his distinguished career across Cantonese opera, film, and television.
Titled "The King of Comic Roles" — Leung Sing Por, the exhibition features approximately 70 sets of selected museum collections and exhibits. These include five costume sets being shown to the public for the first time, along with historical handbills, newspapers, and photographs.

The display chronicles Leung's artistic journey, highlighting his transition in the 1950s to performing comic roles, which garnered him widespread acclaim and the honorary title "The King of Comic Roles."
The showcase spans his work in Cantonese opera, on the silver screen, and on television, demonstrating his versatility in both leading and supporting roles, and in both tragic and comedic genres.
Among the highlight exhibits is a brown man's python ceremonial robe adorned with gold and silver sequins, once worn by Leung.

Other notable items include a photograph of Leung in Cantonese opera costume, a film poster for the Cantonese opera film The Lion's Roar, a film still from Silly Wong Growing Rich, and a special film issue of Ko Kwan Bo, a Spy in the Fort / Lau Kam Ting's Clash at the Gate.
Visitors can also peruse a retrospective album of Leung's film roles and scan a QR code to listen to radio program hosts discussing the artist's life.

Starting in April, the museum will host monthly screenings of two classic films starring Leung: Siu Po-po Pokes Fun at the King of Blunders (1960) and The Lion's Roar (1959) at the HKHM theatre.
