Chinese embassy refutes India reports on Taiwan's WHO role
By Xinhua

NEW DELHI — The Chinese embassy in India has made a solemn statement refuting some Indian media articles advocating so-called "Taiwan's participation in WHO" and clarified China's principle and position.

In the statement issued on Monday, the embassy's spokesperson Counselor Ji Rong pointed out that the articles seriously violated the One-China principle and sent wrong signals to the Indian people, to which the Chinese embassy in India expresses its "strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition."

There is but one China in the world and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China,

"There is but one China in the world and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China," Ji said in the statement.

"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The One-China principle is a widely accepted consensus of the international community including the Government of the Republic of India," she said.

Noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations restricted to only sovereign states, the spokesperson said according to the relevant resolutions of the UN and the WHO, as well as the WHO Constitution, Taiwan, as a part of China, has no right to join the WHO.

Any questions about Taiwan's participation in international organizations must be arranged under the One-China principle, Ji said.

China will try its best to implement epidemic prevention and control measures to safeguard the common welfare of compatriots on both sides of the Strait and continue to make arrangements for the Taiwan region to obtain relevant information as a part of China, Ji said, adding the Chinese government will never allow the DPP (the Democratic Progressive Party) to take this opportunity to engage in seeking "Taiwan independence."

"We urge the relevant media recognize the seriousness of the problem, take a correct and objective stance on issues concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, adhere to the One-China principle, and do not provide platform for 'Taiwan independence' forces," Ji said.
