Hong Kong leader John Lee Ka-chiu and senior government officials on Thursday attended an official ceremony in the city to commemorate victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
The program began at 8 am at the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden, with the playing of the national anthem and the raising of the national and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region flags.
The event also featured a police rifle volley, the observation of two-minute silence in mourning and bowing in tribute to the fallen heroes.

Among the dignitaries who attended the event were Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR Zhou Ji, Deputy Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR Chen Feng, Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR Li Yongsheng, Deputy Commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Zhang Chunshan, Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, as well as former HKSAR chief executives and members of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council.
They were joined by war veteran groups, HKSAR deputies to the National People's Congress, Hong Kong members of the National Committee of the CPPCC, representatives from the District Councils, Heung Yee Kuk, district organizations, uniformed groups and youth representatives.
In 2014, the National People's Congress designated Sept 3 as the Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in remembrance of the resistance of the Chinese people against Japanese aggression and to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the war.
