HONG KONG – The redeveloped Huanggang Port will officially open and start operations from Monday, providing 24-hour clearance services for passengers and passenger vehicles.

As agreed by the governments of Guangdong and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the port – which is expected to reshape cross-boundary inno-tech and logistics, boosting long-term industrial collaboration with other central and western border checkpoints – will officially open and commence operations at 6:30 am on Monday.

The new port building has passed "acceptance inspection", the SAR’s Security Bureau and the Office of Port of Entry and Exit of the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government said in a joint statement.

“Following the completion of a series of system tests, trials and emergency drills by both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, it has been confirmed that the port is ready for opening,” reads the statement.

With the new port coming into service, passenger clearance services at the temporary port building of the Huanggang port in Shenzhen and the Lok Ma Chau control point in Hong Kong will be suspended, added the authorities.
