The China Coast Guard conducted routine law-enforcement patrols in waters east of China's Taiwan Island on Thursday, according to the CCG.

Jiang Lue, a spokesman for the CCG, said a task group led by the CCGS Putuoshan carried out the patrols in accordance with the law.

Since August, the task group has stepped up patrols and management in relevant waters to help maintain normal navigation and operations and protect the legitimate rights and interests, as well as the safety of lives and property of Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, Jiang said.

The CCG will continue law-enforcement patrols in waters under China's jurisdiction and safeguard the country's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, he added.
