HANGZHOU, China - The Beijing Ducks defeated the Zhejiang Lions 101-87 on the road, taking a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven final series of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Wednesday.
"We were well-prepared for this game, but credit to Zhejiang -- they're exceptionally strong. They came out with a lot of momentum early on, which put us under significant pressure. However, we never gave up. Through solid defense, aggressive rebounding, and disciplined execution of our game plan, we managed to turn things around and regain control of the game," Beijing head coach Xu Limin said after the game.
"We completely failed to contain Beijing's two key players, Chen Yingjun and Eugene German today," Wang Bo, Zhejiang's head coach, admitted. "Our offense and defense both had issues. Beijing hit 13 three-pointers as a team, and those two alone accounted for 10 of them. Their efficiency was sky-high, which shows we didn't apply enough defensive pressure."
"Beijing moved the ball far better than we did," Wang observed. "They created many open looks through their spacing and passing, while we abandoned our system and resorted to too much iso play. Once we took an early lead, everyone started forcing individual shots instead of sharing the ball. That's why we trailed in assists, rebounds, and three-point percentage."
