HK logs 92 new virus cases, 95 test preliminarily positive

HONG KONG - Hong Kong recorded 92 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 80 local infections, bringing the city’s tally to 14,197.

The local cases included 67 that were linked to previous infections and 13 that were untraceable, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch,  said in a press briefing.

Among the local cases were 62 Omicron infections, 11 Delta cases, and seven that are currently unclassified, she added.

The 13 patients with unknown sources of infection included a kitchen worker, a 69-year-old retiree, a resident of Po Lam, a 50-year-old woman in Sham Shui Po,  a 9-year-old in To Kwan Wan Road, a housewife in Tsuen Wan, a Fanling resident, a cleaner in Kwai Fong, a North Point resident, and a worker at the airport’s third runway construction site.

Two of the unlinked cases were suspected of having the Delta variant while 10 had Omicron and one was still unclassified, Chuang said.

She added that there were 95 patients who tested preliminarily positive, including a worker at a nursing home for the elderly.    

Meanwhile, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said in a statement that an outsourced cleaning service contractor worker at Kwai Chung Sports Ground tested positive for the virus. 

Kwai Chung Sports Ground has been temporarily closed since Jan 7 and the worker last came to wokr on Jan 29, the LCSD said.

It added that Kwai Chung Sports Ground will be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized according to the guidelines of the CHP.
