HONG KONG - One preliminary COVID-19 case was detected after nearly 2,000 residents were tested in Kwai Chung on Sunday night.
The government said in a statement on Monday that 1,872 persons underwent compulsory testing at Shek Wah House, Shek Lei (II) Estate, Kwai Chung and one of them tested preliminarily positive.

A restricted area was set up at the building on Sunday evening after a sewage sample that tested positive for the coronavirus raised concerns that there might be asymptomatic patients in the area.
Government staff members visited 644 households but 40 of them did not answer the door. Follow-up measures will be taken to ensure they also get tested.
The government also cordoned off No 18, 20 Yin On Street and No 17, 19, Tsun Fat Street, To Kwa Wan after some residents tested positive for a COVID-19 mutant strain.

Fifty-five people were tested as of 10:30 pm Sunday but no new coronavirus infection was found.
Meanwhile, the government said in a separate statement that quarantine-free arrangements for arrivals from Zhuhai to Hong Kong through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge under Return2hk and Come2hk Schemes resumed starting Monday.
“From January 31 onwards, persons who have fulfilled all specified conditions of the Return2hk Scheme or Come2hk Scheme will be exempted from compulsory quarantine upon entry into Hong Kong from the Zhuhai Port through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge,” the statement reads.
A government spokesman reminded that all arrivals in Hong Kong under the two programs will still be undergo compulsory tests and should continue to monitor their health.
