China expressed high appreciation on Thursday after the Papua New Guinea government announced its decision to close the Taipei economic office.

It once again shows that upholding the one-China principle is a consensus of the international community and an unstoppable trend, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular news briefing.

"China stands ready to continue working with Papua New Guinea to support each other on issues concerning their core concerns and fundamental interests, and to jointly advance the comprehensive strategic relationship between the two countries," Lin added.
