
HONG KONG – The Fire Services Department is leading an inter-departmental fire investigation task force formed on Friday to investigate the deadly fire in Hong Kong’s northern district of Tai Po.
The task force comprises representatives from the Hong Kong Police Force, the Buildings Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the Independent Checking Unit under the Housing Bureau, Labour Department and the Government Laboratory, as well as fire engineering professionals, the FSD said in a statement on Saturday.

“The task force held its first meeting yesterday (Friday), with two main objectives on investigation: first, to investigate the cause of the fire and how it spread; second, to determine the factors that led to heavy casualties,” reads the statement.

After the meeting, task force members also visited the fire scene at Wang Fuk Court for a site inspection.
One of Hong Kong’s deadliest fires in decades, the blaze, which started at 2:51 pm on Wednesday and was finally put out at 10:18 am on Friday, burned seven out of eight buildings of the housing estate.
