HKO cancels all cyclone warnings as Typhoon Danas moves away

The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled all tropical cyclone warnings on Sunday afternoon as Typhoon Danas gradually moved away from the city.

In a weather bulletin issued at 2:23 pm, the observatory said it took down the Standby Signal, No 1 as Typhoon Danas moved towards the Taiwan Strait.

"Danas is expected to move further into Taiwan Strait and away from Hong Kong," the observatory said.

"There will still be swells. Members of the public should stay on the alert, stay away from the shoreline and not engage in water sports."

The observatory said that it will be extremely hot in the afternoon with a maximum temperature of around 35 degrees Celsius.

The Very Hot Weather Warning was issued at 6:45 am and the observatory urged members of the public to take protective measures against the heat.

With the Heat Stress at Work Warning also in effect, the Labour Department reminded employers and employees to take appropriate measures against heat stroke. 

Temperatures over many places in the territory had reached 34°C or above around noon.

The observatory added that it will still be very hot on Monday and Tuesday.
