HKSAR records travel boom during May Day holiday

Hong Kong recorded over 4.6 million entry and exit trips through various ports during the first four days of the five-day Labor Day holiday, official data showed.

The figure included approximately 2.17 million departures and around 2.43 million arrivals, according to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

On May 2, the city logged 267,062 visitors from the Chinese mainland, up from 221,758 during the previous day and marking a new single-day record for the number of mainland visitors entering the SAR since the pandemic.

The city saw a total of 832,489 mainland visitors during the first four days of the May Day holiday. The immigration department had predicted more than 800,000 visits from the mainland during the entire holiday period.

Among the four days, May 3 saw the highest number of departures, with about 705,346 exit trips recorded.

On May 4, the city logged around 585,901 arrivals, including 401,877 Hong Kong residents.

As one of the three longest holidays in the Chinese mainland, the May Day Golden Week holiday takes place between May 1 to May 5 this year.
