Hundreds of spectators flocked to Tai Hang in Causeway Bay on Monday night to catch a glimpse of the fire dragon dance, a celebrated tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The event featured 300 performers leading a 67-meter-long “fire dragon” made primarily of incense sticks and rattan as it toured the area. A 20-meter-long “dragon” made of LED lights, waved by 100 children, also joined in the parade.
Dating back to the 19th century, the event is a tradition of praying for good fortune and dispelling disease. It has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2011.
