'Blue' supermoon dazzles the night

A “blue” supermoon — the biggest and closest full moon of the year — has appeared in the night sky, with people across the globe thrilling to capture the spectacle.

A "blue moon" refers to the second full moon that arises in one single month.

Following the first full moon in early August, the rare phenomenon — a blue moon and a supermoon occurring at the same time — will appear for around three days through Sept 1. It will not happen again until 2037.
