HONG KONG - An 18-meter LED dragon lit up Hong Kong’s Lee Tung Avenue on Monday in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Presented by the Kwok Clan Kung Fu Golden Dragon Lion Dance Troupe, the dragon, adorned with vibrant LED bulbs and dynamic smoke effects instead of traditional incense, delivered a lifelike, captivating performance.

Accompanied by LED-lit lions and a thunderous drum ensemble, the dazzling dragon dance began at 8:30 pm in the central courtyard. It paraded along Queen’s Road East to Johnston Road before returning, in a spectacular 45-minute procession.

Featuring interactive chases and fixed performance points, the event reimagined Hong Kong’s cherished intangible cultural heritage by blending modern technology with ancient craftsmanship.

Complementing the dragon dance was the Fish Reflecting Moonlight Outdoor Lantern Festival, running through October 26.

The festival showcased over 800 colorful traditional Chinese and goldfish lanterns along the 200-meter, tree-lined avenue.

Symbolizing abundance and prosperity, these lanterns, with their petal-like tails swaying gracefully against the backdrop of elegant European architecture, evoked the cultural themes of “abundance every year” and “flowers bloom, moon full.”
