SINGAPORE - The 10th Singapore Airshow opened on Tuesday at the Changi Exhibition Center, featuring flying displays including one by the Bayi Aerobatic Team of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force.

It marked the team's return to the biennial international airshow, following its previous appearance in February 2020 at the event's seventh edition.

This year's flying display program features eight participants, including air force teams from six countries -- China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, India and Indonesia -- as well as commercial aircraft manufacturers the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and Airbus.

COMAC arranged a solo flying display of its narrow-body C919 airliner, which previously appeared at the Singapore Airshow in February 2024. Organizers said the C919's appearance reflected "the rapid advances in next-generation commercial aviation."

Beyond the flying displays, the airshow includes a static exhibition of more than 35 aircraft, covering commercial, business, military and unmanned platforms from leading manufacturers and operators. COMAC is showcasing both the C919 and the C909.

Organizers said the event has attracted more than 1,000 companies from over 50 countries and regions. The airshow runs until Feb 8, with the first four days reserved for trade visitors and the final two days open to the public. Multiple flying displays by the eight participating teams are scheduled throughout the event.

Bayi Aerobatic Team of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force delivered a flight display featuring six J-10 fighter jets.

The performance marked the first public appearance in Singapore by the team after it transitioned to the J-10C aircraft.

The display opened with the six aircraft flying in a tightly packed formation, releasing trails of red, yellow and blue smoke in a low-altitude flypast to greet international guests.

It then continued with a series of maneuvers, including a five-aircraft break, as the jets peeled away evenly from a single point to form a flower-like pattern in the sky.

"The China performance was really breathtaking, which showcases the capabilities of what the aircraft could do," Ralph Phua, a student at Singapore Management University, told Xinhua.

Li Bin, leader of the Bayi Aerobatic Team, said the performance at the Singapore Airshow represented both a reunion in the skies and a journey of friendship.

Taking this airshow as an opportunity, the team will continue to convey the Chinese Air Force's aspiration to safeguard peace and enhance mutual trust, Li said.

The team is scheduled to conduct two additional flight performances during the six-day airshow.
