China will host the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in the near future in Beijing, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday. The move signifies the country's readiness to work with countries around the world to jointly accelerate the progress of women's development.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in Beijing, and marked a significant turning point for the global agenda for gender equality.

There are only five years to meet the goals set by the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development, and the global advancement of women faces severe challenges and enormous opportunities at the same time, the ministry's spokesman Guo Jiakun told a daily news conference.

China has not only advocated for, but also acted with concrete actions, to strive for gender equality and women's well-rounded development, he noted.

The country issued a white paper last week to introduce China's philosophy, principles and innovative practices in promoting gender equality and women's well-rounded development in the new era.

It also highlighted Chinese women's outstanding achievements, contributions, and affirmed China's commitment to joining global endeavors for women's advancement.
