HONG KONG - A major exhibition dedicated to Chao Shao-an will kick off Wednesday at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM), marking the 120th anniversary of his birth.

Titled Legacy of Lingnan School of Painting: In Commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Chao Shao-an, the exhibition presents 120 works created between the 1930s and 1990s.

Chao, a leading figure of the Lingnan School of Painting, developed the movement by blending Chinese traditions with modern techniques and promoting it internationally.

The Lingnan School, which emerged in Guangdong in the late 19th century, sought to reform Chinese painting through innovation and cross-cultural exchange. Chao’s work and teaching played a central role in shaping its place in modern Chinese art.
