HONG KONG - Torrential rains flooded roads and disrupted traffic in parts of Hong Kong on Thursday, as the city’s weather forecaster issued a red rainstorm warning signal at 9:36 am.

The Hong Kong Observatory downgraded the red alert to amber at 10:40 am, but only to revert it to red two hours later. At 3:30 pm, the red rainstorm warning signal was downgraded again to amber.

The heavy downpour was brought on by the remnants of Typhoon Danas and an active southwest monsoon, which triggered intense showers and squally thunderstorms along the southern coast of China and the northern part of the South China Sea.
