Art of seal carving showcased in GBA

An exhibition showcasing more than 200 seal-related masterpieces is being held in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for the first time.

Presented by the Xiling Seal Art Society from Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, the exhibition opened at the Guangzhou Museum of Art on Tuesday and is recognized as the largest outbound exhibition of its kind in recent years.

The exhibit includes works from the four founders of the society and elite masters, as well as distinctive works of calligraphy and Chinese painting. 

It also features original works of seal carving by representative literati from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties to modern times, reflecting the artistic achievements and style of the Xiling Seal Society's members, and presenting the continuation, inheritance, and development of the art. The exhibition will run through Oct 20, 2025.

Founded in 1904 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the Xiling Seal Society is the oldest existing society for literati art in China. It is also the earliest established professional academic group for seal carving, according to the society.
