BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug on assuming office as Mauritania's minister of foreign affairs, cooperation and Mauritanians abroad.

In his message, Wang said China and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania have a profound traditional friendship and bilateral relations have enjoyed long-term, sound and steady development.

Wang voiced his willingness to work together with Merzoug to enhance exchanges and cooperation between foreign ministries of the two countries, and promote coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to push for greater development of China-Mauritania relations.
