Over 1,000 COVID-19 cases found in 6 'restricted areas'

HONG KONG - Health authorities found 1,019 preliminary positive COVID-19 cases in six buildings that were cordoned off for overnight testing on Saturday.

In separate statements issued on Sunday, the government said  678 persons tested preliminarily positive for the virus at Tak Yu House, Tak Pui House and Tak Yiu House in Tak Long Estate, Kowloon City.

The government continued with its overnight testing operations as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong continued to rise. On Saturday, Hong Kong logged 37,529 new coronavirus cases  and 150 deaths linked to the virus

There were also 28 indeterminate cases detected in Tak Yu House and 32 in Tak Yiu House, the government added.  

At Shek Tai House, Shek Lei Estate, Kwai Chung, 148 cases were found after 1,640 residents were tested.

The government also said that 146 persons tested preliminarily positive at Lai Huen House, Lai Kok Estate, Sham Shui Po, where 620 residents underwent compulsory testing.

And at Hoi Shan Court and Hoi Wu Court, Aberdeen Centre, 47 cases were found after 759 people had themselves tested.

The government set up “restricted areas” at these buildings on Saturday after their sewage tested positive for COVID-19.
