Editor's Note: At the Great Hall of the People in Beijing over the weekend, President Xi Jinping held a series of meetings with world leaders and distinguished guests who attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. Below are highlights from those meetings.

Egypt
China is willing to continue to provide COVID-19 vaccines to Egypt, expand cooperation on joint vaccine production and help the nation become a vaccine production center in Africa, President Xi Jinping said while meeting with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday.
Noting that the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership has become a model of solidarity, cooperation and mutual benefit between China and Arab, African and developing countries, Xi called for joint efforts to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations.
He said that the two sides should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and continue to work together on aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with Egypt's Vision 2030.
Al-Sisi said Egypt supports China's core interests and its position on issues of major concern, and the country is willing to work with China to tackle various challenges.

Serbia
President Xi Jinping hailed the ironclad friendship between China and Serbia while meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Beijing on Saturday, saying that the two countries enjoy a high level of mutual trust.
In the face of challenges unseen in a century, the two sides should view bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, maintain and further develop their friendship, and firmly support each other's fundamental and long-term interests, Xi said.
Xi called on the two sides to seek greater synergy between their development strategies and work toward greater progress in cooperation projects, including the Hungary-Serbia railway.
Vucic said that Serbia is a true friend of China's and admires its leadership, adding that no matter what pressures or hardships lie ahead, the ironclad friendship between the two will remain strong.

Kazakhstan
An independent, safe, stable and prosperous Kazakhstan is in the common interests of the people of China and the Central Asian nation, President Xi Jinping said during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Saturday.
Noting that the relationship between the nations is critical for both regional and world peace, Xi said China firmly supports Kazakhstan's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
China will always be a reliable friend and firm partner of Kazakhstan and is ready to help the nation develop its economy and improve people's livelihoods, he said.
Tokayev expressed gratitude to China for firmly supporting his country's efforts in safeguarding its security and stability.
Kazakhstan will, as always, firmly support China on issues related to China's core interests and will not be influenced by external forces, he said.

Turkmenistan
China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation on all fronts and build a more substantial, vibrant and dynamic relationship, President Xi Jinping said on Saturday during a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
Xi said that China stands ready to work with Turkmenistan to increase the volume and scale of natural gas cooperation, which has greatly promoted the socioeconomic development of both nations.
Xi also called on both sides to align the Belt and Road Initiative with Turkmenistan's development strategy to accelerate the revival of the Great Silk Road. China is willing to continue enhancing vaccine cooperation with Turkmenistan, he said.
Berdymukhamedov said his country is willing to work with China to hasten natural gas cooperation and expand exchanges in other fields to raise Turkmenistan-China ties to a higher level.

Uzbekistan
While meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Saturday, President Xi Jinping called on China and Uzbekistan to seize opportunities to consolidate and strengthen bilateral comprehensive cooperation and create more benefits for their peoples.
Noting that China and Uzbekistan share similar goals and ideas on development, Xi called on the two sides to implement plans for economic, trade and investment cooperation.
Xi said China is willing to help Uzbekistan build a modern industrial system, adding that the two sides should strengthen cooperation in natural gas and renewable energy. China is ready to carry out more anti-pandemic cooperation with Uzbekistan, Xi added.
Mirziyoyev spoke highly of China's contributions to promoting world peace and development, saying that China has become a model due to its determination to build an advanced, democratic and modern country.

Ecuador
President Xi Jinping called on China and Ecuador to take negotiations on the free trade agreement as an opportunity to deepen their practical cooperation as he met with Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso on Saturday.
In a joint statement on deepening the China-Ecuador comprehensive strategic partnership, the two sides agreed to launch negotiations on a bilateral free trade treaty.
Xi urged the two sides to continue to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and explore new growth areas such as healthcare and green development.
Lasso expressed gratitude for China's support amid the pandemic, saying that half of Ecuador's COVID-19 vaccines came from China.
Premier Li Keqiang also met with Lasso on Saturday.
In another development, Peng Liyuan, Xi's wife, met with Maria de Lourdes Alcivar, the first lady of Ecuador, and said joint efforts can be made to deepen cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Tajikistan
President Xi Jinping hailed the bilateral relationship between China and Tajikistan when meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Saturday, saying that China is willing to work with Tajikistan to push for new development in their relations.
The two countries are ironclad friends with unbreakable political mutual trust and offer each other staunch mutual support, he said.
Xi said that China is willing to continue to provide anti-pandemic support and assistance for Tajikistan and to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation with Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries.
Rahmon said that deepening the Tajikistan-China friendly relationship has been, is and will remain a priority in his country's foreign policy. He said Tajikistan welcomes China's increased investment and expanded import of Tajik farm products.
The two sides also signed an economic and trade cooperation agreement on Saturday.

Qatar
China stands ready to work with Qatar to push forward their strategic partnership to a new level amid the new opportunities facing bilateral ties, President Xi Jinping said when meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday.
China stands ready to cooperate with Qatar on jointly building the Belt and Road, implementing the Global Development Initiative, Xi said. He called on the two sides to deepen enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, adding that China is ready to work with Qatar to launch the first panda cooperation in the Middle East.
Xi also expressed hope that Qatar will continue to play a positive role in working to reach a free trade agreement between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The Qatari emir said Qatar will continue to firmly support China in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, and will deepen cooperation between the two sides.

United Arab Emirates
China is willing to join hands with the United Arab Emirates to build a comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era, President Xi Jinping said while meeting with Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi of the UAE on Saturday.
Noting that the China-UAE relationship has become a model of relations between China and Middle Eastern countries, Xi said the Chinese side stands ready to work with the UAE to support each other's position on issues involving respective core interests.
Xi said that China will actively participate in major development projects of the UAE and expand their cooperation in fields including new energy, space and aviation.
The crown prince said strengthening the relationship with China is a top priority for the UAE's foreign policy and the UAE will remain committed to consolidating and deepening its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

Singapore
President Xi Jinping hailed China's ties with Singapore when meeting with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob on Sunday, saying that the strategic mutual trust between the two countries has been deepening with pragmatic cooperation continuously expanding and development interests have converged with each other.
He called for the two countries to strengthen planning for stronger synergy between their development strategies in order to further promote bilateral ties.
Xi underlined the need for both countries to intensify collaboration in the fields of green development, digital economy, intelligent cities and scientific and technological innovation, and to foster new growth drivers for bilateral cooperation.
The Singaporean president complimented China on its hosting of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in a green and safe manner, saying that it will help promote international solidarity and cooperation.
Premier Li Keqiang on Saturday also met with Halimah, noting that China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Singapore and deepen the synergy of development strategies of the two sides.

Poland
President Xi Jinping said he stands ready to work with Polish President Andrzej Duda to guide the sound and stable development of the China-Poland relationship in the long term so as to benefit the two peoples during their meeting on Sunday.
Xi called on the two sides to show respect and care for each other's core interests and major concerns, enhance communication on major international issues and firmly uphold the international system and basic norms governing international relations.
To bring bilateral pragmatic cooperation to a new level, Xi said that China encourages its enterprises to invest in Poland and believes that the Polish side will provide a fair, just and nondiscriminatory business environment for them.
As this year marks the 20th anniversary of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries, Xi said China will establish a China-CEEC wholesale market of agricultural products in Poland.
Duda said his country hopes to expand two-way trade and investment cooperation with China for more Polish agricultural products to enter the Chinese market.

Argentina
China will work with Argentina to promote exchanges and cooperation in all fields and usher in another splendid 50 years of their comprehensive strategic partnership based on previous successful experience, President Xi Jinping said when meeting with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on Sunday.
Xi said that China is willing to share development opportunities with Argentina and help the Latin American country to expand exports and upgrade industries. He called on the two sides to jointly build the Belt and Road, implement existing major hydropower and railway projects, deepen cooperation in such areas as trade and agriculture, and explore new cooperation in digital economy and green development, among others.
Xi said he would like to jointly announce with Fernandez that 2022 is the year of friendly cooperation between China and Argentina. During this year, the two countries will actively conduct exchanges in fields including culture, education, sports and media, he said.
Fernandez said that his country will firmly adhere to the one-China principle and will continue to actively participate in the joint building of the Belt and Road.

Kyrgyzstan
Meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov on Sunday, President Xi Jinping described the countries' bilateral ties as a high-level comprehensive strategic partnership.
He said that China, as its trustworthy friend and partner, firmly supports Kyrgyzstan in adopting a development path of its own choice and firmly supports it in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and security.
Japarov commended China's efforts in hosting the Beijing Winter Olympics in spite of difficulties due to the pandemic, saying these Games embody the true Olympic spirit and will bring unity, friendship and hope to people around the world.
Noting that their bilateral ties are based on the principles of equality, mutual trust and mutual benefit, Japarov said his country will continue to firmly support China in safeguarding its core interests of sovereignty and security in terms of matters related to the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Taiwan question.
The two countries released a joint statement and signed an array of cooperation documents after the meeting.

Luxembourg
China is willing to work with Luxembourg to develop the nations' bilateral relations in a sustained and steady way, President Xi Jinping said while meeting on Sunday with Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.
Xi said that China appreciated the grand duke's support for China's bid and preparations for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and he thanked Luxembourg's royal family for promoting the China-Luxembourg friendship.
Noting that Beijing sticks to expanding opening-up and is willing to embrace the whole world, Xi said China welcomes Luxembourg's enterprises to tap the potential of cooperation in such areas as advanced technology and green economy.
He also said China hopes that Luxembourg, as one of the founding members of the European Union and a core member, could make greater contributions to the development of China-EU relations.
The grand duke thanked China for its contributions to Luxembourg and many other countries to help them cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and promote economic recovery.
He said the Belt and Road Initiative is a good proposal and Luxembourg will support and actively participate in it.

Monaco
China and Monaco have set an example of friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between big and small countries that have different histories and cultures, President Xi Jinping said on Sunday while meeting with Prince Albert II, Monaco's head of state.
He hailed the fruitful bilateral cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, environmental protection, sports and arts, particularly the building of the 5G telecommunication network in Monaco thanks to the cooperation between enterprises from both countries.
China welcomes more of Monaco's enterprises to participate in the annual China International Import Expo, increase investment in the country, actively develop international cooperation on joint building of the Belt and Road, and explore joint cooperation with third parties, he said.
The prince congratulated China on its success in hosting the Beijing Winter Olympics, saying people from all the countries have heard China's strong message of peace and unity.
He also said Monaco wants to advance the sound development of relations with China and secure more fruitful results from cooperation with China in the fields of trade, telecommunications and biodiversity.

Pakistan
The strategic significance of China-Pakistan relations has become more prominent with the world entering a period of transformation and turbulence, President Xi Jinping said when meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday.
Noting that China firmly supports Pakistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and dignity, Xi said China stands ready to synergize its development strategy with Pakistan and further promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to ensure smooth implementation of the major projects.
He underlined the need for the two countries to strengthen coordination and cooperation on multilateral occasions, including those of the United Nations, to voice more support for justice and uphold peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
Khan appreciated China's assistance to Pakistan in fighting the pandemic. He said that both countries are all-weather friends and that Pakistan will stand firm with China at any time.
Premier Li Keqiang also met with Khan on Saturday, expressing China's willingness to strengthen all-dimensional practical cooperation with Pakistan.

Mongolia
President Xi Jinping said that China will work with Mongolia to deepen mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between the two countries and bring their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level when he met with Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene on Sunday.
Noting that China and Mongolia are important friendly neighbors, Xi said that to maintain, consolidate and develop bilateral ties conforms to the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries.
Oyun-Erdene said that the hosting of the Beijing Winter Olympics amid the pandemic boosted the world's confidence to win the fight against the pandemic, and added that Mongolia firmly opposes politicizing sports.
Mongolia is willing to deepen cooperation with China and work to make the Mongolia-China relationship a model of exchanges between neighboring countries and of international relations, he said.
Premier Li Keqiang also met with the Mongolian prime minister on Saturday, saying that China will push forward cooperation between the two countries in areas including infrastructure and pandemic containment.

United Nations
President Xi Jinping stressed strengthening unity and cooperation to tackle various pressing global challenges when meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday, saying that China will continue to firmly support the UN's work.
China will also make new contributions to safeguarding world peace and development and building a community with a shared future for humanity, he said.
Xi said that the Chinese people have once again shown their positive spirit and strength through the hosting of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. With such people as a strong support, China can get anything done, he said.
Xi pointed out three major issues that deserve thought and attention at present and over the coming period globally: enhancing unity to fight COVID-19, boosting development and promoting democracy.
Guterres said the partnership with China is a vital pillar of the UN and multilateralism, and the UN seeks to strengthen cooperation with China and looks forward to China's greater role in global issues such as the reform of the international system.
