Mainland Olympians begin visit to Hong Kong

HONG KONG - A delegation of Chinese mainland Olympians arrived in Hong Kong on Friday for a three-day visit and performances.

Led by Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport, Yang Ning, the team arrived in Hong Kong around noon. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government held a welcome ceremony at the Shenzhen Bay Port to receive the delegation, which comprises 29 athletes and three coaches from 12 sports events.

Sprinter Su Bingtian, who set the Asian record of 9.83 seconds in the men's 100m at the Tokyo Olympics, and Ma Long, the world's first table tennis player to claim men's singles titles at two consecutive Olympic Games, are among the 29 athletes.

The delegation will attend a welcome reception and banquet hosted by the HKSAR government Friday evening. The public will have a chance to see the athletes up close in three public events, including two sports demonstrations and a variety show, on Saturday.

The visit, as the latest part of "The Spirit of the Times Shines upon Hong Kong" activity series, is organized by the General Administration of Sport, the HKSAR government, and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR. It aims to further enhance humanistic exchanges between the Chinese mainland and the HKSAR.
