Social Seed helps students with STEM, fitness

Social Seed, a nonprofit social enterprise in Hong Kong, recently organized a STEM + Taekwondo project to enhance its ties with the community and develop good physical fitness among students.

The group launched its latest project at the Tong Mei Road Government Primary School in Yau Tsim Mong District, with more than 2,000 students expected to benefit from it.

By connecting with the community through its programs, Social Seed said it aims to help the needy and promote community integration

By connecting with the community through its programs, Social Seed said it aims to help the needy and promote community integration. The STEM project was intended to spur students’ interest by connecting STEM with sports, while the Taekwondo program aims to cultivate children's morals and fitness.

Social Seed will also provide free Taekwondo training courses for families and children with special learning needs.

Charlotte Chan Tsz-yan, assistant district officer (Yau Tsim Mong) and representative of the Home Affairs Department attended the opening event. Other guests included Wong Tsz-shing of YTMWAC; NG Kam-cheung of the Membership of District Fight Crime Committee (Yau Tsim Mong District); Steven Pun of Social Seed; and Lee Lai-mui, headmistress of Tong Mei Road Government Primary School.

Students displayed their Taekwondo skills at the launching ceremony.

Social Seed said it will continue its efforts to connect with the communities of Yau Tsim Mong District, integrate resources to encourage participation of the private sector and promote community integration. 

Since its establishment in 2018, Social Seed has organized more than 100 online and offline events and served more than 50,000 students.
