Singapore announced on Tuesday to ease COVID-19 rules for travelers from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, reducing their stay-home notice period to seven days from 14 days.

Travelers from the SAR can also serve their stay-home notice period at their place of residence “if suitable”, said the city-state’s Ministry of Health in a press release.

Previously they had to spend 14 days in a government-chosen hotel.

The changes will be effective from Thursday at 11.59 pm.

At the same time, the city tightened entry rules for travelers from India and relaxed restrictions for those from the UK and South Africa.

Singaporean long-term pass holders and short-term visitors will now be able to enter from the UK and South Africa. Previously only citizens or permanent residents were allowed. All will have to spend 14 days in a government-chosen hotel and an additional seven days in home isolation.

Meanwhile, fewer entry approvals from India will be granted for non-Singapore citizens or permanent residents with immediate effect, the ministry said. Starting at the end of the day Thursday, all travelers who have been to India recently will be subjected to an extra seven days of home isolation following their 14-day quarantine at a government-designated facility.
