Singapore tightens rules for travelers from Hong Kong

HONG KONG - Singapore is tightening border measures in light of the latest COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong, according to the city-state’s health ministry.

All travelers entering Singapore from 11:59 pm on Sunday who have a travel history in the past 14 days to Hong Kong will be required to serve a 14-day stay-home notice at dedicated facilities.

The new requirement is stricter than the current one, under which travelers from Hong Kong are required to serve a seven-day stay-home notice at their place of residence

In addition, starting from 11:59 pm on Dec 18, all travelers entering Singapore – except Singapore citizens and permanent residents – who have travel history to Hong Kong in the past two weeks must take a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction test within 72 hours before departure to the city-state. 

They will need to present a valid negative COVID-19 test to enter Singapore.

Hong Kong reported 86 new coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally in the financial hub to 7,377.

Singapore and Hong Kong announced in early November an air travel bubble to allow people to travel to and from the two places without the need for quarantine. The authorities announced early this month to deferred the plan until next year due to a surge in infections in Hong Kong.
