HK sees 81 new cases, more than 60 test preliminarily positive

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 81 new COVID-19 patients on Thursday, with more than 60 others testing preliminarily positive.

In a media briefing on Thursday afternoon, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch, said 75 of the new infections were locally transmitted while six cases were imported.

Chuang said that of the 75 new local cases, 59 were linked to the dance cluster, bringing its tally of infected persons to 311.   

She added that 13 local infections were of unknown origin. The city's total number of confirmed cases stood at 5,947.

She also said that seven more restaurants, gyms, and dancing studios would have to be closed after it was confirmed that they had also been visited by infected persons.   

According to the Hospital Authority, there were 429 patients being treated in hospitals as of Thursday, including seven in critical condition and four in serious condition.
