Xinjiang sees 3 local cases among mainland's 24 fresh infections

BEIJING - Chinese health authorities said Monday that it received reports of 24 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Sunday, including three locally transmitted cases and 21 imported infections.

The new local cases were reported in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

Thirty new asymptomatic cases, including 24 imported, were also posted on the mainland Sunday, the National Health Commission said

For the fresh imported cases, six were reported in Shanghai, five in Guangdong, three each in Shanxi and Gansu, two in Sichuan, and one each in Tianjin and Jiangsu, the commission said.

There were also 30 new asymptomatic cases, including 24 imported, posted on the mainland Sunday, the commission added.

One new suspected imported case was reported in Shanghai, while no additional deaths related to the disease were reported, according to the commission.

Another 20 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that there were 363 patients still being treated, including 12 in severe condition.

By the end of Sunday, a total of 3,401 imported cases have been reported on the mainland. Of them, 3,100 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 301 remained hospitalized. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

So far, a total of 86,021 confirmed cases have been reported on the mainland, including 81,024 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, the commission said.

Currently, there is one suspected case on the mainland, said the commission, while 14,489 close contacts were still under medical observation after 683 were released from observation.

Two asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases, while 684 asymptomatic cases, including 460 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation, the commission said.

By Sunday, 5,330 confirmed cases, including 105 deaths, have been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while the Macao SAR has recorded 46 cases, Taiwan has had 558 cases, including seven deaths.

A total of 5,096 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao SAR and 518 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
