HONG KONG - Hong Kong police have seized the largest amount of crystal meth in a single operation since 1991.

Police said Wednesday that 296.2 kg of suspected crystal meth were seized and seven people aged between 26 and 57 were arrested during an operation in Yau Ma Tei on Tuesday.

They were charged with drug trafficking, possession of prohibited weapon and possession of false instruments, police said, adding that more arrests could be made.

The city's police have stepped up their crackdown on drug trafficking recently, including making the biggest seizure of cannabis plants, totaling 580 kg, in a raid on a parking lot earlier this month.
