The Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra (GBAYO) completed a three-city tour in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou from Friday to Sunday, marking its fourth consecutive year staging the performance in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The orchestra comprised 103 young musicians from across the GBA, the largest lineup in its history, under the baton of conductor Ken Lam, who said the intensive rehearsal process had sharpened the musicians' technique and broadened their artistic perspectives through shared study and discussion.
Arnold Cheng, director of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA of John Swire & Sons—whose parent company, Swire Group, is the Founding Patron of the GBAYO—said the orchestra demonstrated that GBA integration extended beyond infrastructure and industrial synergy. "Using music as a bridge, the project turns the GBA from a geographic term into an emotional tie," he said.

With the completion of the three-city tour, the GBAYO has arranged over 400 training and performance opportunities and put on 14 concerts in the GBA, drawing more than 8,000 concertgoers. Serving as a musical link, it promotes cross-regional cultural exchange and mutual appreciation.
Yiu Song-lam, associate dean of the School of Music at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, said the standard of music programming at cultural events across China and the GBA had risen significantly in recent years, with the region increasingly attracting leading international performers.
