MANILA — Seven men were retrieved from a mining tunnel and found dead on Thursday in Benguet province, northern Philippines, police said.

The incident may have occurred on Wednesday and may have been caused by poisonous gas, according to police.

An investigation into the type and source of the gas, as well as the circumstances surrounding the deaths, is underway.
