JAKARTA – Indonesia's parliament on Tuesday confirmed Destry Damayanti as governor of Bank Indonesia, making her the first woman to head the country's central bank.

Lawmakers unanimously approved Destry, along with Aida S. Budiman as senior deputy governor and Solikin M. Juhro as deputy governor, during a plenary session in Jakarta.

The three will serve five-year terms through 2031 after being nominated by the government and passing parliamentary fit-and-proper tests.

Destry, who had served as Bank Indonesia's senior deputy governor since 2019, became acting governor following Perry Warjiyo's resignation in July.

Mukhamad Misbakhun, chairman of the parliament's Commission XI, said the new leadership was expected to enhance the central bank's effectiveness in supporting economic growth and job creation.

Aida previously headed Bank Indonesia's international department, while Solikin led its economic and monetary policy department.
