The Qianhai Hong Kong Residents and Enterprises Service Centre officially opened on Friday in the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, offering a range of services to Hong Kong residents and enterprises to facilitate their development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The center focuses on helping Hong Kong residents in matters relating to study, employment, entrepreneurship, home purchases and daily life, while also assisting Hong Kong businesses in accessing policy information, markets, talent, financing and technology.

Stanley Ng Chau-pei, Hong Kong lawmaker and president of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, said the collaboration among different service organizations will enable them to complement one another and provide more comprehensive support for people working or living in the region.

He said the federation plans to provide access to legal resources, employment and entrepreneurship support, and skills training, with services also targeting young Hong Kong people who are establishing themselves in the Greater Bay Area.

Kenneth Chen Wei-on, president of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, said he has observed growing interest among young Hong Kong people who are seeking to pursue career opportunities in the Chinese mainland cities of the 11-city cluster, particularly in Shenzhen’s innovation and technology sector. The federation will expand its manpower and services as demand grows, he added.

The federation launched its Qianhai Hong Kong Youth Development Centre in March 2024, its first regular service hub in the Greater Bay Area.

Annie Tam Kam-lan, president of the Connecting Hearts Academy, said Hong Kong social service organizations could bring their experience to Qianhai while working with their mainland counterparts to explore service models suited to local circumstances.

The center opens as a growing number of Hong Kong businesses are starting up in Qianhai and more Hong Kong residents are choosing to work or live in the area. Qianhai was home to 11,333 Hong Kong firms as of the end of June, up 14.1 percent year-on-year, and more than 13,000 Hong Kong residents, according to the Qianhai Authority.
