Eight top milk tea masters fought for the KamCha (golden tea) title during a Hong Kong-style milk tea-making competition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday.

The 17th China and Greater Bay Area KamCha Competition 2026 (Hong Kong region) concluded with a grand finale on the main stage of the Hong Kong International Tea Fair 2026.

Themed “Milk Tea Shows a New Style: Intangible Cultural Heritage with Creativity”, the event aims to promote Hong Kong-style milk tea as part of the city's intangible cultural heritage.

"Milk Tea Shows a New Style" signifies not just a style but a thriving new culture, said Simon Wong Ka-wo, head of the Association of Coffee and Tea of Hong Kong (ACTHK), in a local report, adding that the classic milk tea has captured the interest of younger generations.

“We need to stay attuned to the times, adapt to changes, and actively consider how to spark greater interest in our traditional culture,” Wong said during the launch ceremony on July 17.

Organized by the ACTHK and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the competition aims to uphold traditional craftsmanship while encouraging the integration of contemporary elements, giving Hong Kong-style milk tea a fresh and innovative appearance.
