Golf athletes from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region have expressed their determination to go all out to win a medal at the upcoming 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan, and are already fully engaged in training and preparation.

During a media conference on Friday, Hong Kong golf athlete Taichi Kho, who previously won a gold medal in the individual section and a bronze medal in the men’s team section at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, said he believes that the team has the strength to achieve the success they achieved a few years ago, and is ready to rise to the challenge.

During the International Series Morocco in June, the 25-year-old golfer bagged a gold medal and claimed the $2 million prize. The event also sealed his second Asian Tour title.

Sophie Han, who will also represent Hong Kong in the 20th Asian Games, said that she has been training hard in preparation for the games, and that she hopes to be in top physical condition for the event and to bring honor to the Hong Kong team.

Han expressed her confidence in the team and its potential to claim a medal at the games.

“Currently, I’m focusing on adjusting my training content and training plan. In the coming period, I will participate in a few competitions to test whether my training is on the right track,” Han said.

The 19-year-old athlete has previously visited the golf course in Aichi, and said it’s in very good condition. It's a typical Japanese- or Korean-style course, with relatively narrow fairways, Han said — the kind of course that allows athletes the opportunity to achieve high scores, if they play well — and she is looking forward to seeing the players’ performance on the course.

The golf event at the 20th Asian Games runs from Sept 30 to Oct 3 on the East Course of Kasugai Country Club in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. A total of six Hong Kong golfers will participate in the event.
