
The volume of Hong Kong's total exports and imports of goods increased by 25.8 percent and 27.4 percent, respectively, in May this year over the same month in 2025, government data showed on Thursday.
Comparing the first five months of 2026 with the same period last year, the volume of the city’s total exports of goods and imports of goods rose by 27.6 percent and 31 percent, respectively, according to external merchandise statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department.
Changes in volume of external merchandise trade are derived from changes in external merchandise trade value with the effect of price changes discounted.
Data released earlier on June 25 by the department showed that the total value of merchandise goods exports in May soared 40.8 percent year-on-year to HK$611.2 billion ($78 billion), after an annual increase of 42.9 percent in April.

Comparing May 2026 with May 2025, the prices of total exports of goods and imports of goods increased by 11.8 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively.
Regarding price changes in the first five months of this year over the same period in 2025, the prices of total exports of goods and imports of goods rose by 6.7 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively, data showed on Thursday.
Considering destinations, increases were recorded for the total export volume to China’s Taiwan (70.7 percent), Vietnam (48.9 percent), the United States (40.4 percent) and the Chinese mainland (31.2 percent), while the total export volume to India fell by 24.5 percent in May year-on-year.
Over the same period of comparison, the total export prices to all main destinations increased: the mainland (13.2 percent), Vietnam (11.9 percent), the US (11.2 percent), China’s Taiwan (10 percent) and India (10 percent).
