SHENZHEN — A film industry forum was held in Shenzhen on Friday, featuring speakers including director of recent hit movie Dear You.

The Forum on High Quality Development of the Film Industry was held in Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center as part of Forums on Building up China’s Cultural Strengths 2026, organized by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

One of the keynote speakers is Lan Hongchun, director and screenwriter of Shenzhen-produced film Dear You. The low-budget Chaoshan-dialect film, with an amateur cast and focusing on the deep bonds between overseas Chinese and their families at home, emerged as a dark horse in the recent film market.
