The semi-final of the "21st Century Cup" English Speaking Competition for the primary and secondary school categories, organized by China Daily and VDO English – the educational arm of China Daily Hong Kong – was held on Saturday at the Hong Kong Productivity Council in Kowloon Tong.

Nearly 300 participants delivered impassioned speeches, demonstrating their linguistic proficiency, as well as critical thinking and creativity.

The winners will go into the final round of the competition, slated for May 9.
