Two dead after bus rams into taxi in Tsing Yi

Two men were killed after a bus slammed into a taxi on Tsing Ma Bridge in Tsing Yi late on Monday night, police said.

The 66-year-old taxi driver and his male passenger, 37, died at a hospital while the bus driver, 49, was arrested for was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, police said in a statement.

A female bus passenger, 66, was injured in the mouth and was sent to the Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious state.

Police said the incident happened around 11:16 pm while the bus was travelling along Lantau Link towards the airport. Local media reported that the bus rammed into the taxi, which had stopped on the slow lane after it broke down. 

The taxi driver and his passenger were trapped inside the taxi and were rescued by firemen later, police said.

Sustaining no superficial injury, the taxi passenger and driver were unconscious when they were rushed to Yan Chai Hospital, where they were certified dead after midnight on Tuesday.

Police said the bus driver is being detained for further enquiries while the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South conducts an investigation.
