HONG KONG - Tourists and residents swarmed to places acorss Hong Kong to participate in the new year countdown events.

In the city's financial district Central, a celebration event was held at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct with live music performances and stunning light shows, drawing a number of people to ring in 2026 and share the festive joy.

Meanwhile, at Chi Lin Nunnery in Kowloon's Diamond Hill, a bell striking ceremony was launched to wish Hong Kong a prosperous and harmonious year. Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Sun Shangwu, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR government Eric Chan Kwok-ki attend the event with other officials and guests.
