BANGKOK - Thailand's Election Commission on Monday announced it has approved a plan to hold the country's general election for members of the House of Representatives on Feb 8, 2026.

The announcement follows a royal decree dissolving the lower house of parliament, which took effect last Friday, mandating the commission to organize a general election.

The registration period for constituency and party-list candidates will conclude by December, along with the notification of political parties' prime ministerial nominees, the commission said in a statement.

Under the two-ballot system, eligible voters will elect 500 members of the House of Representatives, who will serve a four-year term.
