Demonstrating how cutting-edge technology can revolutionize legal education, Hong Kong’s first AI teaching assistant deeply integrated with university curricula was launched recently as the city enhances its status as an international educational hub.

WiseLaw Digital Technology, a startup nurtured by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s PolyVentures, worked with Professor Wang Jiangyu from the City University of Hong Kong’s School of Law to develop AI-Tutor Agent, a groundbreaking innovation in industry-academia-research collaboration and a significant advance in the field of legal technology.

The launching of the new AI teaching assistant also marks a solid and critical step forward for Hong Kong in realizing the practical application of "AI + Education."

"We are committed to establishing a trustworthy, explainable, and scalable legal AI system,” said Lu Haitian, founder of WiseLaw and Hong Kong SustainTech Foundation Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

“The AI-Tutor Agent is not just a tool for answering questions; it serves as an academic partner that guides students on how to ask the right questions and think critically."

Lu and Wang collaborated in developing AI-Tutor Agent, which aims to reshape and revolutionize traditional legal education.

Under the old system, law students often find themselves sifting through vast amounts of cases and literature to find answers, while repetitive basic questions consumed a significant amount of professors' time and energy.

With AI-Tutor Agent, students can receive immediate, accurate, and verifiable professional answers whenever and wherever they encounter difficulties, greatly enhancing their self-directed learning efficiency and enthusiasm for exploring knowledge.

For law professors, the AI teaching assistant takes over a significant amount of repetitive inquiry work, freeing them from dealing with basic legal questions and allowing them to focus on more inspiring deep guidance and academic discussions, thus upgrading their role from "knowledge transmitters" to "thought leaders."

AI-Tutor Agent’s developers stressed that it is more than just a simple chatbot since its core value lies in its high level of "academic rigor."

All knowledge within the system is derived from authoritative course materials reviewed by Wang, ensuring the professionalism and accuracy of the content.

It also features precise traceability, allowing every response to be traced back to its original source, effectively eliminating the common "hallucination" issues found in general AI models and providing a solid knowledge foundation for serious legal studies.

During the launching event, students showed great interest in the new AI model, signaling the arrival of a more efficient and personalized learning norm.
