BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.1 percent to 3,916.23 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.25 percent lower at 13,086.41 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.93 trillion yuan (about $271.95 billion), down from 2.07 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to coal, liquor, and glass sectors were among the biggest winners, while non-ferrous metals, fertilizer and pesticide companies suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.38 percent to close at 3,037.44 points Thursday.
