Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.43 percent to 3,399.77 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent higher at 10,250.14 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 1.29 trillion yuan ($179 billion), up from 1.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares in the innovative drugs and football concept segments led the gains, while precious metals were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.07 percent to close at 2,061.29 points.
