HK to host inaugural Boao Forum tech conference

The International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of the Boao Forum for Asia 2025 will be held in Hong Kong for the first time on Friday and Saturday, with more than 800 high-profile participants expected to discuss ways of capitalizing on the city’s unique advantages, and fostering global co-operation in innovation and technology.

As one of the world’s major platforms for high-level inno-tech co-operation and exchanges, the theme of this year’s event is “Transitioning towards the Future: Powered by science, technology and innovation”.

Top experts, scholars, and political and economic leaders from around the world will hold discussions with former foreign heads of state, renowned scientists and entrepreneurs, and deliver keynote speeches on some of the hottest issues.

The co-organizers - the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and the Boao Forum for Asia - said the event will deepen regional and international collaboration, strengthen the SAR’s position in the international inno-tech field, and accelerate its goal to be a world inno-tech hub.

As part of the conference, a Hong Kong Forum will be held on Saturday. The focus of the discussions will be on capitalizing the city’s strengths as a “super connector” and “super value-adder”, as well as its strategic position in linking the Chinese mainland with the global community.

The 2019 inaugural ISTIF, initiated by the Boao Forum for Asia - an international organization headquartered in China and formed by 29 Asia-Pacific nations - focuses on enhancing global governance in science and technology.

With the aim of boosting global governance of science and technology and promoting international innovation and co-operation in this field, the ISTIF is also expected to guide the formulation of rules for new technologies and accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
