BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.34 percent to 2,867.95 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.43 percent higher at 8,409.22 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 477.32 billion yuan (about $66.8 billion), down from 495.9 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to combustible ice and oil and gas exploitation led the gains, while those linked to liquor and traditional Chinese medicine suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.93 percent to close at 1,607.19 points Tuesday.
