HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government expressed concern over the power outage that affected around 2,250 residents in Wong Tai Sin on Wednesday night.
The government said in a statement that the outage that lasted for four hours began at around 8:02 pm due to a fault on an 11kV underground cable in Wong Tai Sin.

“The government is very concerned about the electrical incident happened in Wong Tai Sin tonight, leading to power supply outage in some buildings,” the statement reads.
“Residents were trapped in lifts and might have an uncomfortable night under this hot weather,” it added.
Local media reported that the affected areas included Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate and Mei Tung Estate while the government opened the Tung Tau and Wong Tai Sin community centers for those in need of temporary shelter.
CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd said it deployed mobile generators to the site to provide temporary power supply for some residents. Power supply was eventually restored at 12:11 am Thursday after emergency repairs were completed, it added.
