Hong Kong will make full use of its existing sports facilities and resources, especially the soon-to-be-completed Kai Tak Sports Park, to organize fencing, cycling track events and other competition events for next year’s three top national sports meets, officials said on Thursday.
The city will co-host three national sports gatherings, including the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, with Guangdong province and Macao between November and December of 2025. This marks the first time that Hong Kong has been tasked with hosting national sports meets.
Hong Kong will host basketball (men U22), cycling track events, fencing, golf, handball (men), rugby sevens, triathlon, beach volleyball and bowling in the National Games, which will be held from Nov 9 to 21, 2025.
For the national games for para and special athletes, which will take place from Dec 8 to 15 next year, Hong Kong will organize boccia, wheelchair fencing, para table tennis (TT11), para dance sports for players with disabilities, as well as table tennis for special players.

The three games’ organizing committees held their inaugural meeting in Guangzhou on Thursday to introduce the competitions’ agendas.
As the executive chairman of the committees, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu reported on the special administrative region’s latest preparatory work, saying his team will adhere to the principle of "simple, safe and wonderful" in organizing the games and making full use of existing venues, especially the soon-to-be-completed Kai Tak Sports Park.
He said the National Games’ triathlon event will be hosted at the city’s landmark Victoria Harbour and Central Harbourfront. “It will be a good opportunity to showcase Hong Kong’s picturesque landscape and unique characteristics to spectators nationwide,” Lee said.
Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, secretary for culture, sports and tourism, said at the meeting that Hong Kong will not build new facilities but will leverage existing resources to host the games.
Apart from the triathlon event, the competitions in basketball will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, track cycling in Tseung Kwan O, and golf at Fanling. Competitions in fencing, handball, rugby and bowling will be held at the Kai Tak Sports Park.
Victoria Park will host beach volleyball matches, he added.
Yeung added that venue arrangements may change depending on circumstances, noting that the Kai Tak Sports Park should be completed by the end of this year. “Judging from the current situation, it will be completed according to the plan," Yeung added.
The Kai Tak Sports Park, Ma On Shan Sports Centre and Tsuen Wan Sports Centre will be venues for the events in the national para and special games, Yeung said.
Established in 1959, the quadrennial National Games is the country’s top multisport event.
